Terra Magazine draws together many of Australia’s most talented comic artist, writers, and inkers. Besides being published in Terra many of the creators have been publishing comics for many years, read about our talented creators here and find more of their work.
Tom Bonin
artist, co-writer // KENSUKE
Thomas Bonin is an Australian comic artist and creator. His work has appeared in several Anthologies including Kagemono, Flinch and Tango. He inked parts 2 and 3 of The List, written by Paul Bedford and pencilled by Hpop. Bonin is the creator of Dicks and Kensuke. Kensuke started off in small press idol in 2007 with a 12page issue 0. Terra will see a reworking of issue 0 and the full story with co writer Jason Franks. Bonin is currently working on several projects with Phil Bentley and James Andre and illustrating a soon to be released RPG called Nectar under the D&D banner.
Ben Michael Byrne

It is rumoured that Ben was created by the coupling of a half insane goat man and a 4/7th’s mad pole-dancing CEO of a major European food chain.
When not dancing naked in front of the mirror to Goodbye Horses, BMB is drawing. Most often he is drawing comics. Sometimes he isn’t drawing comics, but most often he is.

Michal DUTKIEWICZ

Michal Dutkiewicz’s first professional comics work was Hero Alliance for Innovation Comics in 1989. He went on to work on Lost in Space, Team Titans, The Spectre, Superman: Man of Steel, Batman Forever, Pitt, Wolverine: Doombringer and many other titles. Dutkiewicz has been the recipient of a Royal South Australian Society Of Arts Award for Best Painting and a three time winner of the Stanley Award for Best Comic Book Illustrator.

Jason Franks

Jason Franks writes comics, prose and source code. He is the author of the graphic novels McBLACK and THE SIXSMITHS, as well as numerous short stories in prose and comics. Franks is the chief editor of the small press comics company Blackglass Press, which is best known for the KAGEMONO horror anthology series.
Jason Fischer

Jason Fischer lives near Adelaide, South Australia, with his wife and son. He is currently a full-time writer, supported by an arts grant from Arts SA.
He tries to unleash the weird every time he gets behind the keyboard, and his fiction has been described by reviewers as “strikingly original” and “weirdly imaginative”, while noted for containing “greasier genre elements”.
Greg GATES

Greg has worked in Australian comics for over 3 decades and has done almost everything: selling, reading, promoting, printing, distributing, publishing, editing and drawing. He enjoys doing the art most of all, whether it’s pencilling, inking, lettering, colouring or the lot all together.
Nicholas HUNTER

Nic is a 3D artist. His comics work has appeared in Local Act Comics Presents and in each volume of Kagemono, for which he has usually been the cover artist as well. Nic prefers to let his work speak for him.
Yuriko SEKINE

Yuriko Sekine is a former journalist and magazine editor from Hokkaido, Japan. She is the creator of the manga WE LOVE THE EARTH. She has illustrated short stories for HARD WORDS and KAGEMONO, working with a variety of writers.
Harry PURNELL

Harold Purnell grew up on a staple diet of saturday morning cartoons and comics. Like most art junkies, his addiction to pad and pen began early and has only grown worse with time. He hopes to one day be wealthy enough to wile away his time creating art. In the meantime he spends most of his time at work or with his young family busily corrupting his son’s mind with comic books and cartoons.
Bruce Mutard

Bruce Mutard has been producing graphic novels and comics for 15 years. He was the co-founder of Comics Quarterly, the journal for Australian comics and has created, produced and administered comic books production and drawing for comics courses at Melbourne’s CAE. He published Street Smell in the 1990s and produced cartoons, illustrations and advertising through Bad Art Studios for a variety of clients, including 3RRR, Hitz FM, Independent Monthly, Bizarre Times and InPRESS. His first graphic novel, The Bunker, was published in the US by Image.The Sacrifice, Book I in the Robert Wells trilogy was published by Allen& Unwin in 2008.
Luke Pickett

Luke Pickett was born in Melbourne, Australia. Luke attended RMIT art school to study painting which destroyed the romantic illusions of making fine art as a career, and lead to an undying, everlasting (one might almost say obsessive) love of comics.
He continues to forge his own destiny in the face of all obstacles, and also sometimes draws pretty pictures. If you ask nicely he will also create websites and other multimedia productions for select auspicious individuals.
Jason PAULOS

Jason Paulos debuted on the Sydney comics scene in 1989 with the first self published issue of ‘Hairbutt The Hippo’, the story of a hard boiled anthropomorphic private eye roaming the seedy underbelly of a the big city. Over the years Jason has regularly contributed to Australian MAD magazine, DC comics, Judge Dredd Megazine and published a dozen Hairbutt comics. Jason has entered the world of retro horror with the first US edition of EEEK!, a collection of the first 4 issues of his self published horror book out now through Asylum Press. He’s now busy writing, drawing and publishing the second series of ‘EEEK!’ books, currently available at selected Australian newsagents and comic shops or from the Black House comics.
Leigh KUILBOER

Malicious, aka Leigh Kuilboer, is an essentially self-taught artist living in Melbourne, Australia. He grew up in a small back-of-no-where country town called Mildura. A place where there was not much to do but twiddle your thumbs, raise hell or sneak alcohol and get drunk. He’s been drawing for as long as he can remember– its was how he escaped the boredom.
Leigh found inspiration in some of the classic artists from 2000AD (a British comic), Simon Bisley, Carlos Ezquerra and Colin Wilson and even from some random places like t-shirts and album covers.
Jan SCHERPENHUIZEN

J. Scherpenhuizen is an editor, novelist and publisher and the author and illustrator of the six issue series, the Twilight Age, from Black House Comics. Jan also provided layouts for issue 1 of Dark Detective, the second title to be released by Black House – an exciting new take on Sherlock Holmes. His illustrations have appeared in and on Mr Blood, The Glowing Man and Bold Action and Pulse of Darkness all of which were written by Chris Sequeira with whom he created Mr Blood and the Glowing Man. Jan has worked as a penciller with Michael Dutkiewicz on Wolverine Doombringer and Lost in Space. His most recent work in American comics was inking Chew Chan’s pencils on issue two of the Buckeroo Banzai mini series. His work has also appeared in Kagemono and Tides of Hope.
Christopher SEQUEIRA

Christopher Sequeira is a Sydney-based Australian writer and artist who works predominantly in the speculative fiction realm, especially with the horror, science fiction and mystery genres. His published work includes poetry, prose (especially short fiction), film and television scripts and comicbook scripts. Sequeira is a veteran Australian comic writer, creating and writing a horde of heroic and horrific concepts that have appeared on newsstands nationwide in Australia, including PULSE OF DARKNESS, RATTLEBONE: THE PULP-FACED DETECTIVE, THE BORDERLANDER, and many others.
